Offshore Medicals

What are Offshore Medicals?

Offshore medicals are medical examinations undertaken by individuals who wish to work offshore on an oil rig or offshore windfarm.

We provide three different medicals relating to the offshore industry:

OGUK

EBS (Fit to Train),

Chester Step Tests.

OGUK

An OGUK Offshore Medical includes:

  • Completion of Patient Health History Questionnaire

  • Urinalysis—routine urine test with immediate result

  • BMI—measurement of height, weight and calculation of Body Mass Index

  • Near, Distance and Colour Vision

  • Pulse and Blood Pressure Measurement

  • Lung Function Test (peak flow)

  • Audiogram (hearing test)

  • Consultation with a licensed OGUK doctor.

Take note that a Drug & Alcohol test isn’t included in the OGUK Medical but can be completed upon request.

EBS

Every offshore worker must undergo and pass an Oil & Gas UK (OGUK) offshore medical examination. Fit To Train relates to the risk of using Compressed Air Emergency Breathing Systems (CA-EBS) and is designed to ensure you are physically fit to use these systems.

Chester Step Tests

The Chester Step Test is an effective way to assess a person's fitness levels by determining the rate of recovery following intense exercise. The test itself is called a sub-maximal test which requires the candidate to step up onto a step which is 30 cm (12 inches) in height.
